Boy, do I have something fun to share with you today!  I was recently introduced to a company that creates tea infused cocktails!  The Teaologist, is a New York based company created by two adorable young ladies.  Not only do they create custom tea blends but they also specially craft cocktail recipe.  As a tea lover I thought this idea was so unique and fun that I jumped at the chance to interview them.

With summer BBQ’s and the Fourth of July holiday coming up I thought you all would love some new innovative recipes to share with your friends and family.  The tea cocktails are the perfect Fourth of July drink recipe.  They are light and thirst quenching.  Your guests are sure to love this new take on traditional cocktails.

Below are some tips and tricks one serving this fun new tea cocktail.

Petitfoodie: Where did your inspiration for the tea cocktail originate?

Teaologist: My partner, Jennie, and I got tired of going out and getting the same old drinks.  Drinks like cranberry and vodka, which were loaded with sugar and calories.  We wanted something more refreshing. So we got together and started creating these tea cocktails.  We would host ‘tea parties’ for our friends and the tea cocktails were a hit.

Petitfoodie: What inspires you to create your tea cocktail recipes?

Teaologist: We have a tea lab were we do all of our recipe testing.  We have a baseline recipe that we usually go from and then add and subtract flavors to create something new.  The testing is our favorite part.  The longest we usually spend testing a recipe is no more than a couple of hours.

Petitfoodie:  With the Fourth of July coming up, what foods pair well with your cocktails?

Teaologist:  Tea cocktails are perfect for the Fourth of July foods , aka BBQ foods.  The foods at BBQ’s are usually heavier and these cocktails are light and refreshing, complimenting the foods very well!

Petitfoodie: What is the best way to present your tea cocktail to reluctant guests?

Teaologist:  Describe the drinks, give them the health benefits and of course make them taste it.  Once they tasted how refreshing and delicious the drink is they will love it.

Petitfoodie:  What are your most popular cocktails?

Teaologist: The Captain Palmer.  Inspired by the Arnold Palmer, this drink has the lemon grass tea base, lemon juice that really make this drink refreshing.

Petitfoodie: Since I do have a child that wants to try and eat everything we eat, do you have any suggestions on creating ‘mocktails’?

Teaologist:  We have non-caffeinated teas that work well for children.  You can make the cocktails and omit the alcohol.  We recommend using Agave for your sweetener.

Petitfoodie: Do you recommend mixing these cocktails ahead of time?

Teaologist: Yes, these drinks can be made a few hours ahead of time.  I wouldn’t make the tea more than a few days before your party.

Here are few recipes that Captain Morgan and The Teaologist have shared with me.  I thought you all might like to change things up this Fourth of July and serve something a bit more refreshing.  Give them a try and let me know if you love them!
